What's Happening at Commerce FUMC!
Summer 2023 Youth and Children's Events
Youth Mission Trip (May 28-June 1)
Our youth group (rising 6th-12th graders) are going to the Hinton Center in Hayesville, NC for a few nights and will participate in the Summer Mission Outreach program. The programming, worship services, and service projects will be organized by Hinton staff. Throughout the week, we’ll have the opportunity to learn about the needs of those living in poverty, participate in daily devotions together, learn about Appalachian culture, and serve our neighbors in Clay and Cherokee counties (NC) and Towns County (GA). We are excited to grow together as a youth group and to kick off the summer by serving others together! The all-inclusive cost for this mission trip will be $200 per youth (this amount has been subsidized by the church, but additional assistance can be made available) and the deadline to sign up is January 12.
Vacation Bible School (June 4-8)
Save the date for our annual Vacation Bible School, which will take place in the late afternoon/evening on these dates. This experience is for children from age 3 to those who have completed the 5th grade—and it’s free! More info to come, but we hope you’ll plan to join us and bring a friend! (We’ll also need plenty of adults to help host this wonderful annual event!)
Grow Day Camps (June 26-30)
Get excited! Grow Camp is back at CFUMC! An offering from the North Georgia Camp & Retreat Ministries (of the UMC’s North Georgia Conference), Grow Day Camp has been a favorite of so many children and youth in our church. Camp staff will host day camp at CFUMC Monday-Friday (9:00-5:30pm, with a 12:30 dismissal on Friday) and all children who are rising 1st-6th graders are welcome to join! There will be fun activities all week long, including a day trip to Camp Glisson. The cost per child is $110* for church members and $160 for guests. Registration will open in 2023 at growdaycamps.org
Camp Glisson
Camp Glisson (also from the UMC’s North Georgia Camp & Retreat Ministries) is a special place in the hearts of so many people in our church. They offer summer camps for children & youth – and more info can be found at Glisson.org/summer. If a child from our congregation would like to attend a session at Camp Glisson, there is a fund that helps to subsidize those costs. Let Whitney know if your child is planning to register.
*These amounts have been subsidized by our congregation, but please let Whitney know if additional financial assistance is needed in order for your child/youth to participate. We don’t want cost to be a barrier for anyone.
We are so grateful for the gifts that this congregation has offered to support these camps and summer ministry activities. If you feel so led, we hope you’ll continue supporting these multi-generational ministry offerings by giving to one of these funds to support our youth and children as they grow closer to God and to one another.
Wednesday Nights at CFUMC
Our LIFT (Living in Faith Together) dinners are back in 2023! We will resume meeting monthly for intergenerational study, fellowship, and dinner. The first LIFT will be Wednesday, January 11 from 5:30-6:30. Mark your calendars for all the dates in this session: January 11, February 1, March 1, and May 3.
Regular Wednesday programs (Bible study for adults and activities for children) will also resume – starting January 18 (5:30-6:30pm). Volunteers are needed to assist with the children’s programs, so let us know if you can help (tinyurl.com/WednesdayTeachers)
Sunday Mornings
We need two volunteers each Sunday to lead Children's Church this fall. Reminder, all must be in compliance with our church’s updated Safe Sanctuary policy. Sign up here and Whitney will be in touch! Thank you in advance! tinyurl.com/ChildrensChurch2022
